This is the first article of this blog and I am going to write on Basic selection tools in Photoshop Anyone who has ever worked on photoshop even once will find himself familiar with them. So I am just going to give some more details of these selection tools in photoshop and what can be done with them.
There are a some tools used for selection images or parts of the images and which are essential to manipulating or enhancing pictures in Photoshop. These tools are: the Marquee, the Lasso, Magic Wand and Type Mask and they will be very frequently used in your work in Photoshop. Among all the selection tools, the marquee tool is the simplest one. But this does not mean that it is not complex, as it can accomplish quite a lot of tasks. The marquee tool has a few subsequent options under the form of the pop-up menu. These options will be shown when moving the mouse cursor over the Marquee tool and holding it there. Each of the options will be treated separately.
The Rectangular Marquee Tool
The first option found in the pop-up menu of the Marquee tool is the Rectangular Marquee Tool. It can only be used to select rectangular shapes, as defined by its name. By clicking and dragging the mouse over the image when this tool is selected, a rectangle will de created. The corner of the rectangle is created by the first mouse click, and its size will be determined after the mouse button is released. To start from the center of the image, hold down the Alt button when doing the dragging. If your intention is to create a square, remember to press the Shift key after you start the drag.
If you combine the Shift with the Alt key, a square will be created from the center of the image to an outer edge. Moving the selection, instead of changing its shape, is possible by pressing and holding down the spacebar while making a selection with the Marquee tool. This feature can be very helpful because there may be times when you botch up the start of the selection and this combo enables the repositioning the selection without the need to start all over again.
Remember to release the spacebar button after you have found the desired position for the selection in order to continue editing it. After the desired selection has been made, it is no longer necessary to hold the spacebar pressed in order to move it. The Marquee tool can also be used to move a selection after it has been created. In order to do this, select the Marquee tool and click and drag from within the selection outline.
