With increasing demand in Graphics, Adobe® introduced Photoshop CS2. This has many advanced features added other than the basic operations from Adobe® Photoshop. One of the tool which is extensively used is the Red Eye Tool. This tutorial can also be implemented in the next version of Photoshop CS2. The step involved in this tutorial does not require more experience. This involves very basic operations to be implemented. Further more, this technique is very flexible and also easy adjust using the Hue & Saturation and Mask tool.
In this Photoshop Tutorial we are going to learn the steps involved in removing Red Eye from human's eye. We will take the following image as a sample.

Next step is to Duplicate the Background layer by dragging the picture into the Create a new Layer icon from the Layer Palette. Select the Red Eye Tool from the toolbar. With the tool selected, adjust the range of the Pupil and iris to a required value. Also check whether the Background copy is still active.

Now remove the Red portion from each eye by making rough selection. Select a thumbnail/picture of the human eye. Make a copy of the background to the layer by dragging the picture to the New Layer palette. This makes the new layer to be active. This is shown below.

The next step is to select the Elliptical Marquee tools for selecting the iris of the eye. Drag the cursor for selecting the iris. Now hold down Shift + Alt and also hold the :left mouse button. Now you will be able to draw a circle around the iris as shown.

Now add a special mask. Open the Layer Palette , add a mask by clicking Add Layer Mask button in the palette. You can notice the mask being created in the layers palette. The mask may also have a double border if it’s active.

Now press \ key on the keyboard. This will change the color of the picture to transparent red color. The circled portion of the iris alone will remain unchanged. Now Move to the Filter --> Blur --> Gaussian Blur. You can use the radius of around 4-5 pixels. The mask painting can be done by using a small soft brush. You can paint with white color to remove the parts of the mask.

Now hold down the Alt key and click New Adjustment Layer. The new layer now pops up as shown. Now change the color of the iris using the Hue/Saturation tool. The color of the iris can be changed to your desired value by moving the Horizontal Scroll Bar. Now you can see the color of the eye is changed.
