In this Adobe® Photoshop tutorial, you are going to learn the creation of very simple design. It’s the designing of Borders. Although the method is very simple, many experts fail to use this technique properly. This tutorial is very well suited for a Beginner to Adobe® Photoshop. So, here we start the tutorial. This tutorial helps you to create a new border to the existing selection. The effect will be smooth. If you want hard edged fill, you need to use stroke command.
First open up a Photoshop .psd document. Open the image to apply modify border command.

Now select Rectangular Marquee Tool and draw rectangular selection around the picture. And your picture will now look like this :

Then, go to Select --> Modify --> Border (add 4-5 pixels width for border). Keep their pixel range with a suitable width. Higher range of width will make you image look worse.

Select any desired color for foreground and fill the color in the selection using ALT + Del key. Press CTRL + D to deselect. You can pick a wide range of colors or textures to add the border. This will provide you an enhanced effect of the picture you wish to use.
