After covering some basic Photoshop tutorials, I am going to cover somewhat more advanced photoshop tutorials. In this article, I am going to cover how can you create a shadow of any object in a image using photoshop.

So tutorial will now teach you the creation of shadows dropping of shadows) for a toy or an object. Obviously, creating of shadows has never been tough. Even you can try to create shadows using Microsoft® Word!! But, What many people require, is to create some realistic picture, such that the altered one must look real!. This may be tough in the case of PaintShopPro® or some simple tools. Adobe® Photoshop has certain unique features for every section of effects that you can imply over a picture.

Let's now see how you can create shadows for a small toy. You will see here now cut portion of a little toy (standing legs placed over a floor).

Let's study how can you project a shadow for that object. This is one of fastest to implement a shadow. Adobe® Photoshop has special tool called "Drop Shadow" .You can find it in Layer --> Layer Style --> Drop Shadow . You can also navigate to the tool by double clicking the "Layer" on the "Layer Palette" as shown below.

You can modify the structure of the shadows, from this tool.

  1. Modify "Distance" to assign the shadow distance for the object in terms of Pixels.
  2. You can use "Spread" for assigning the percentage of the shadow spread.
  3. "Size" is used to set the size of the shadow dropped.
  4. Few more options are "Opacity", "Quality" to enhance the shadow style further.

From the "Layer" tab on the "Layer Palette" , Right click the thumnail that you have embedded. You will see lots of option that you can apply on that thumbnail as shown below.

Select "Create Layer" option from the drop-down menu bar. You can notice a new layer created with a shadow effect placed. The next step you have to do is to skew the shadow layers and to transform it. You can find the skew options from Edit-->Transform--> Skew . Assign the position of your skew manually.

Skew is generally followed by disturbances and distortion. Make it sharp by selecting the "Distort" from the same place where you did the transformation. So align your shadow now in such that it falls on the ground. You will be able to see a new image with shadow created like this.
